I don't typically like to post concerns; or post at all; however, this one I felt is important. I brought my pup there for itchy ears when she was less than a year old. I was told her eardrums had ruptured, and she would need surgery. After surgery I was told to keep her ears cleaned with a solution I purchased there. She continued with itching and scratching despite cleaning. Brought her back, told to keep her ears clean, lots of hair in there, etc. Continued scratching and itching. Brought her back again, and was told she ruptured again, another surgery, and to keep one of the ears flushed clean as infection looked like it wanted to return. Flushed again as directed. Nothing got better. I also got this information only from the tech; I was not put back in a room with the vet; my pup was just taken back each time and then returned to the waiting room. Again, lots of scratching, shaking of her head and ears, etc. I decided to get another opinion. She is now on two weeks worth of antibiotics, twice a day, and Prednisone. I was told not to flush her ears as liquid in there at this time is not a good idea. Had I not made a change for another opinion, who knows where we would have ended up. Deaf maybe?
I am extremely disappointed with the care my cat received at Northwest Veterinary Clinic.
In June 2026, my cat underwent a dental procedure where four teeth were extracted. She was sent home with pain medication but no antibiotics. While she was slow to resume eating, she gradually improved over the following week.
A few weeks later, she suddenly stopped eating altogether. I brought her back to the clinic because I was concerned something was seriously wrong. During that visit, they checked her temperature, gave her anti-nausea medication, and told me they couldn't find anything wrong. I was charged more than $100, yet no additional diagnostics were performed to determine the cause of her symptoms.
Over the next several days, my cat became weaker and continued to refuse food. On July 13, I took her to an emergency veterinary hospital. There, she was diagnosed with an infection related to the tooth extraction. The emergency veterinarian explained that infections can develop after dental extractions due to oral bacteria and that antibiotics are often prescribed when clinically indicated. According to the emergency veterinarian, my cat's condition should have been identified and treated sooner.
As a result, my cat endured unnecessary pain and suffering, and I was faced with an emergency veterinary bill of nearly $900 on top of the costs I had already paid Northwest Veterinary Clinic.
My biggest disappointment is that when I returned because my cat was clearly not recovering normally, I expected the clinic to investigate the cause rather than simply treat the symptoms. I left feeling unheard, and my cat's condition continued to worsen until I sought emergency care elsewhere.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this clinic and will not be returning.
Friendly staff. Just moved to the Blaine area. Recently been at the Maplewood vet before moving to Blaine. So far reasonable prices compared to Maplewood.
Love this place. Feels like they really care about animals. Took my mom's cat there and they gave her the lion cut, which we totally appreciate because she's very finicky about being groomed and she has very fine fur which is prone to knotting. She's always happy when she comes out of Northwest, and tends to bounce around the house for a few days, even in her advanced age.
Thanks Northwest!
