My Yorkie’s regular vet wasn’t available so I came here as a backup on 9/8/26. Dr McGaffey was the Veterinarian. While sitting there I read many of these reviews, which made me concerned. I’m an Emergency Room RN, and trust me, I am highly critical of facility cleanliness and of the perceived intelligence of the Provider’s I interact with, along with scrutinizing the care received.
Yes, Dr McGaffey had my dog without me present. He is definitely not touchy feely like most vets, but he was gentle and kind to my dog. If you need a touchy/feely vet that has you present the whole time, I would go elsewhere. When he was finished with his exam, he came and got me and repeated his findings in front of me, and communicated his recommendations. All these negative reviews on here did cause me to be a little hesitant, but out of concern for my dog’s well being, I agreed.
The vet techs were super nice and helpful.
The facility is extremely clean.
Yes, I paid a lot for the services I requested, which is why I have pet insurance. When you break down the bill, the charges are no different than my regular vet.
On 9/10/26 I took my dog to her regular Veterinarian to discuss these findings and potential surgical options. This doctor stated she agreed with Dr McGaffey’s findings and recommendations. I did not seek a second opinion, she volunteered this information.
If I lived in Deer Park, I would without a doubt use this clinic for my dog.
As for the review where the lady brought in her pets urine sample and felt they were dismissive and they would not use it? Think logically. When testing urine you need a clean sample to avoid contamination. A dirty sample would give negative results. You need clean urine so when you get results, the correct course of treatment can be prescribed. The doctor has no way of knowing how clean the sample is unless they do it themself. Come on people.
Back to Dr McGaffey. He communicates clearly and concisely. He might be slightly spectrumy (doctors and lawyers typically are), but he was very professional and gentle with my dog. I was fairly inflexible with my schedule that day, and he had a busy schedule as well. When I asked if he could finish doing his work up much earlier than he said it would be, he thought about it and then agreed with my terms. He didn’t have to. He could have told me to pound sand and suck it up. My experience was exceptional, and I believe that any well educated, rational adult would agree with me.
Furthermore, I have called them twice since going there for information and they were more than helpful each time.
I’ve had more than one disappointing experience with this veterinary clinic, and after my most recent interaction, I won’t be returning. They overcharge and I think the veterinarian is super rude.
I have taken mini donkies, to birds here for over 15 yrs. Yes prices have gone up but who hasn't. Staff has gotten younger so not as friendly until you try to get to know them. I would do anything for these vets and staff I have gotten to know. Want to say something, try the Vets when I just moved to. OML
