What a breath of fresh air. We’ve been to a few vets for both our cats and for our dog. But most recently our male cat has been having a mix of medical and behavioral issues. After a few unproductive clinic visits that probably stressed him out more than anything else, we realized that we needed help from someone who would take their time during the appointment and really give a strong second opinion, given ALL the details!
Enter Dr Craig and the cat doctor staff! Everyone there is so thoughtful, knowledgeable, and they listen. The staff are friendly and helpful. I felt that Dr Craig gave holistic options and a real plan on how to tackle the issues my cat has been dealing with for over a year. I’m so encouraged to know that Dr Craig and team are on board to help us navigate the next steps.
A few specific differences for us:
Urinary test was done on the spot within 10 min, not a take home kit that gets processed hours or even days later, with results taking up to a week.
Immediate ultrasound with amazing vet techs who kept my cat calm/ comfy. We got to see the imaging and learned what doc is looking for. Also immediate relief from getting answers! Finally!
After Talking through a reasonable game plan, we left the appointment with everything we need to make it happen. No extra online ordering, no trips to other stores, no collecting samples ourselves and wondering what the result will be all week.
Long story short… I’ll be recommending The Cat Doctor to friends and family!
About a year ago we took our cat to her usual vet when she started vomiting and having diarrhea frequently. He prescribed steroids. Her condition didn't improve so we took her to The Cat Doctor, where I had taken a previous cat. They did blood and urine tests and discovered the steroids had given her diabetes. The Cat Doctor prescribed insulin, but didn't address the vomiting and diarrhea, instead telling us to bring her back in a week. When we brought her back, she no longer had diabetes but was still vomiting and having diarrhea. The doctor told us to try changing her diet. When that didn't help, the doctor had her x-rayed. She told us she didn't know what was wrong and would need to do an ultrasound and it would cost $4k. We couldn't afford that, so for this entire year we've been doing our best to manage it with probiotics, diet and over the counter medication. We managed to significantly reduce the vomiting, but her diarrhea has gotten extremely worse, food is going right through her and she's hungry all the time. She clearly feels terrible. I called around to numerous vets, emergency rooms, urgent cares, and a veterinary diagnostic imaging service. I found out that an ultrasound costs only $750. When I spoke with the receptionist at The Cat Doctor, she confirmed the price. But since it's been a year, they want us to do all the same tests again (blood, urine, fecal, glucose and xrays) in addition to the ultrasound. So basically, we paid a bunch of money for almost nothing, didn't get the ultrasound she needed because we were misquoted by over $3k, our cat has been suffering for a year, and now we have to pay for all the same things again plus the ultrasound, all because The Cat Doctor vet grossly misquoted the cost of an ultrasound. We've been offered no reduced costs for her care, or even an apology for the vet's mistake. Now, we have to wait 10 days for her appointment, and we're extremely worried about her health. I called 3 emergency rooms and numerous vets and was told they couldn't help because they don't do ultrasounds. I'm praying my cat survives long enough for her appointment with The Cat Doctor. I found a couple of urgent cares that might do ultrasounds in house, just hoping my cat won't need urgent care before her appointment because we simply can't afford it.
Update 9/16/26: After several months and thousands of dollars for care from the Cat Doctor, there has been no improvement. The vet finally told us he couldn't do any more to help our cat so referred us to Summit Veterinary Referral Center for specialized care. We now are paying $800 for a full ultrasound by a radiologist, because at the Cat Doctor she was given only a partial ultrasound, which cost us several hundred dollars. So after getting chewed out, lectured, and threatened to withhold care by that vet because he insisted his wife, the other vet we had seen there previously, would never have quoted us $4k for an ultrasound, and he even called me a liar, stating his reception did not quote me $750 for an ultrasound....our cat is still as sick as she was the first time we brought her to the Cat Doctor. Also, at Summit, we were quoted $4k to $5k for procedures that would need to be done AFTER the ultrasound. So it's clear to me now that the Cat Doctor vet knew full well his wife had quoted us $4k for the ultrasound Plus post- ultrasound procedures-we had just misunderstood the quote included procedures tooo-and that a FULL Ultrasound DOES cost at least $750, but instead of saying so, he was all about angrily telling us we were wrong about everything and threatened to not treat our cat if we continued to insist we were telling the truth. We wasted thousands of dollars and months of lost time at the Cat Doctor AND suffered verbal abuse by the vet.
